Reliving The Hundred Years War

The Hundred Years War actually lasted 116 years, 4 months, 3 weeks and 4 days (who says you’re wasting your time reading this blog?) which is roughly as long as it seemed between Wolves final basket of the third period and their first of the fourth period.
It was actually 13 minutes and 39 seconds. During which time Lions dropped 43 points on Wolves. It was brutal. If it was character building Caitlin and Ginge will have real character as they move forward with their careers, because they also went to Ipswich twice in the WEABL. My character must be pretty well built as well, I’ve done those three games as well as my only stint as AC for the U-13 boys this year ending in a 107-point massacre at MK. And I’ve spent 10 months and four days dealing the BE “Integrity” Dept. I’m sure we’ll all be better people for this.
At half-time, and mindful of the ridicule Cardiff got for only scoring 19 points, I discussed the matter with the boys academy captain reckoned a reasonable aim was to go from 13 to 21 in the third period and reach 30 by the end of the game. All looked good when we reached 20 with about five minutes gone, then the basketball equivalent of The Hundred Years War started. I was bang on with my 30, though.
The dream I had about this game would have been less painful.
If we’re looking for positives, Caitlin got to play 12:36 against the best team in the WBBL a weel after she’d seen them win a European trophy. If we’re going to mention that two of that successful side were on a plane back to the States in order to play in the WNBA, I’ll mention that Wolves were without their best two players, with the back-up to one of them also missing and another (sometimes) starter has departed. In reality those losses are bigger to Oaklands, even if they’d double-teamed Thompson she’d have got 15 points, possibly not an extra 15 points but we wouldn’t have gone scoreless more than a third of a game.
Cait got a couple of rebounds and an assist, but her biggies was definitely the block, even if the stats people initially put it down as a steal. We might have been technically away, but having narrowly avoided being the spotter (I actually took a spare, all black, hoodie it was that close) I still have influence.
Speaking of being away. The refs certainly treated us as the away team. Calls in Wolves’ were few and far between. The first period lasted 15 minutes. I wondered if they’d nipped out during their lunchbreak and needed to get back.
Wednesday afternoon pro basketball doesn’t work. I actually got a couple of comments. One pointing the absurdity that Cardiff have somehow managed to get their away game switched to their own venue next Tuesday. Even if it’s really our home, Oaklands is Lions’ second venue. It won’t please my other contributor, a guy who foolishly asked me about a million years ago to be his daughter’s God Father

“They need to sort these fixtures out better ,plus l have a women’s season ticket as well as the men’s and most of the games are being played away from the Box ,the Cardiff home is now at home in Cardiff. Having a 230 tip midweek is not good for anyone.”

But it’s over. We got through it. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. We must be seriously strong after this
